GRIEF LET'S TALK ABOUT IT PODCAST | ELLEN CRAINE-ROSTER

Writer's picture: Ellen CraineEllen Craine

Ellen believes that we have to have more authentic conversations around our life journeys; in particular around loss and grief. She believes that most of the struggles people face, have their roots in losses they have experienced. These loses go beyond losing someone to death. With loss come a variety of reactions we call collectively grief. Grief is a deeply personal journey, as unique as the individual experiencing it. Grief is often misunderstood as a period of simply “mourning”, but it is much more than that. Grief is a process of self-discovery and rebirth. Through this self-discovery and rebirthing, you learn that you can have light along side of the dark; joy alongside of sadness. Ellen coined the title Grief Doula to describe her work supporting others on their grief journey. It was developed through incorporating her personal and professional experiences and training. As a Grief Doula, she is dedicated to walking alongside you, offering guidance, compassion and resources every step of the way as you honor your unique journey. Ellen is a licensed clinical social worker in the State of Michigan with over 30 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families in a variety of settings. She is a single mother of two sons, age 21 and 25. Her 21-year-old is a pediatric cancer survivor. Ellen’s husband died from a stage 4 inoperable brain tumor (glioblastoma) when her sons were 12 and 16. In November, 2020 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent chemotherapy and a double mastectomy; and utilized complimentary medicine tools on her road to recovery. She is free of disease. In 2017, following her son’s diagnosis of cancer at the age of 11 in 2014 and her husband’s death in 2016, Ellen completed training with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to become an Integrative Wellness Health Coach.
